SUMMARY:Sketch + Release: Black Artists in Rural Oregon
DESCRIPTION:Join us Friday\, August 7\, at 5:30pm in the Cook Memorial Library Community Room for a performance and conversation with the creators of the docu-series: Sketch + Release. \n\n\n\nEvent is free and open to the public. \n\n\n\nFrom the creators: \n\n\n\nSketch and Release is a touring multimedia performance and docu-series centered on Black creatives living and working in rural Oregon. Created and led by multidisciplinary artist Jason McNeal Graham (MOsley WOtta)\, the project blends filmed interviews\, live performance\, music\, painting\, and guided conversation into a 60-minute experience. \n\n\n\nSketch + Release shifts\, evolves\, and broadens the Black narrative in Oregon. Our goal is to lift up a diversity of Black perspectives and communities across the state. We are currently working on a series of lyrical documentaries (each up to 12 minutes long) about the experiences of Black artists across rural Oregon\, and their unique relationship to culture\, creativity\, and the land. The focus of community building\, healing\, and imagining will come from our tour\, where we will engage rural communities across Oregon. Each showcase will feature performances and facilitated conversations focusing on the multidimensionality of Blackness as well as showing parts of the docu-series. \n\n\n\nTouring from Spring 2026 through Spring 2027\, Sketch and Release will visit venues across Central and rural Oregon\, with each stop featuring new docu-series episodes\, a live performance\, and a locally tailored community dialogue. Supported by major Oregon foundations and cultural partners\, Sketch and Release is part of a broader effort to build sustainable\, equity-focused cultural infrastructure in rural regions. “This project is about making room for Black artists in small towns and for complex stories about who we are becoming\,” says Graham. \n\n\n\nSketch + Release Trailerhttps://drive.google.com/open?id=1-6y__Mk9eEtZgcK_vVC2PJPHxLH5fios \n\n\n\nBlackfish Vignettehttps://drive.google.com/open?id=1Xh1-m94Hmgh22GuXTanZqowAv6Ynj5o4 \n\n\n\nDonation Campaignhttps://givebutter.com/9aXVx1
